Pastor Tavale Matai’a pioneered and served in the Ministry of ‘Samoa Youth For Christ’ in Apia for 13 years before coming to New Zealand with his family and launching an evangelical ministry called ‘Pacific Island Needs’ (PIN) under the umbrella of ‘International Needs’. In 1996, he launched the ‘Word of Life Church’ in Auckland – and is still the current Senior Pastor of the church in Henderson. He has been involved in the Promise Keepers for 21 years and also had a stint as Chairman of the PK Board. In 2011, Ps Tavale launched ‘The Tamatane Malosi’ (TTM) ministry (Mighty Men of Velour) for the Samoan men in NZ under the umbrella of PK.
He and his wife, Alison have been married for 44 years. Alison was a senior lecturer at Ladilaw College for 20 years, retiring two years ago. They have four adult children, all involved in leadership roles in varous ministries of our church.The oldest is a lecturer at Unitec is a Youth pastor. They also have twelve grandchildren!
